Default barf

hi, the barf alterative as it is called has been around a long time, before dried complete food there was nothing else,, most pet dogs lived on our left overs after a meal, i feed all my wolfdogs and my wolf on raw meat, eggs vegetables and animal carcases, i never suplement with vitamins, all they get is a salt lick and in the summer some sulpher blocks in there water buckets, my dogs are all fit and healthy, complete food is a product produced for easy no mess quick feeding, is it good for your dogs, my personal oppinion well they will survive on it,, barf is not an alternative it is the best food for your dogs, and has been arund a long time, complete food is like our fast food you never really know whats in it and if a colour of additive gets banned ,they just change the name and put it in anyway,, i thought most wolfdog owners feed on raw meat ? regards paul uk

I don´t think so, but I do

@ Anthony
- concerning pellets etc. I´m always sceptic
- really expensive (does not automatically mean "good")
- your dog has to drink very much (and she does not)

cheers

I don't know if it's the case, but what if the pellets would reach the same composition as a BARF ? Is it something unreachable ? It seems the cold pressure and max 48°C heat should not destroy what's detroyed in the classical pellets.

I make the experience to only feed with raw meat and bones by one month for see the differences comparing with a dog feed with super-premium dry food, so, the difference and improvement of the dog was really impressive for who eat the barf.
In one month test, my dog stop fat and start gain only in muscular mass, high quality of coat, clean tooths without bad mouth smeel was the most visible things.

maybe, but: a stomach is a stomach - what´s inside the pellets you never know. Do you remember the story about oil residues in the pellets some years ago?

Well I have no doubt the BARF is the most suitted for wolfdogs. This said I will nevertheless continue seeking around ( my education is research, I'm stuck in this mode ) ... because there are also specifics problems associated with BARF, and all the owners simply don't do it because it's not as easy to have well balanced BARF (especially when the dog is still puppy) => the use of kibbles, so there is an interest to find the better suitted kibble for wolfdogs.

I continue for more 20 days, 5 days for change the old feed ( half maet/dry), I only see excelent results, but I back for dry-food/meat half feed because is easiest for conserve the dry food and less meat pieces on summer, but in the winter of 2008 I want start feed only with BARF and use no more the dry food.

It's funny the dogs reaction when you start give meat, after 3 days of test my dog when see me going to kitchen folow me waiting for receive meat, after the test, when I back to gives dry food on second hour she look at the dry food with such heart breaking face.

What kind of BARF are you all practicing, a complex thing with X% of that, Y% of that and so on for many elements ?
My vet told me that only raw meat + bones + grease + fruits, is needed and all the rest is useless ... sounds as an "easy BARF".

Well, it is said, that if a dog gets cattles' stomachs (not cleaned) they don't need any fruits or vegetables. My wolfdog gets raw meet with bones, various subproducts, raw sea fish, sometimes eggs or sour milk (just because she likes it a lot), but I never count the percentage or weight anything Believe me, it is really easy. And Brukne is happy about the way she is fed

Almost 2,5 months ago I start do BARF with my Beagle, she is one special dog because of some health problems as epilepsy, less imunnity and some heart problems, worst cannot be for her age, 4 years old she wasan't for be live.
before I start with the new diet she eat a special dry food for cardic dogs, but too with the medicaments and the special dry food she still cough at night's to almost infarct, I find interessing that almost 2 days after I start with the BARF she stop cough at all, we less the medicament amount and she still continue without cough, two months pass and she no more cough as before . Start of this year I give again one portion of dry food for she, she back with the simptoms at the same night ( cough), I back with the BARF and she stop, so, I do again the test and I give to she dry food again, she back cough, now she is only at BARF and without cough. This really call my attention, was something I never imagine that would happen.

But, about the changes I see again clean teeth's, less mouth smeel, less faeces and without odor, less fat's and more muscular mass and a high quality in the coat.
I note that some problems caused by the less immunity stop after a little time too, but that can be coincidence.

My (disappointing) feedback, after 3 months of this dry food my dog have now inflammation to all the articulations. Allergy ? Deficiency in the product ? I cannot say, but I'm now switching to 100% natural food with the hope all those troubles will disappear soon.
