I think the main problem is not that one breeder produces so many puppies and influences the whole breed in Italy. Sometimes more breeders can "cooperate" and breed "their own" type of breed and change the look of the dogs - just look on Holland/France before....
The real problem is there is no control in Italy. Or there is not enough control. Or it is not working propertly... * Health We have free market and nobody is forced to buy a puppy from appointed breeder. You can choose. :P If you take care to the health of the dogs buy only puppies with HD-results because if the parents are not checked there will be huge probability the will have hip problems in the future. If many people will do that the breeders will be forced to check the health of their dogs used for breeding or....they will be no able to sell their puppies. Result: if the puppy buyers will pay more attention to the health of CLC also the breeders will be FORCED to pay attention for it. * Genetic diversity There are words that one breeder is producing hundreds of puppies which are offsprings of always of the same 2-3 dogs. Sure it is narrowing down the genetic diversity of the whole population and can have negative influence on this breed. But also here the puppy buyers decide how it will develop. And other breeders too. If it would happen in Czech Republic or Slovakia than none of the experienced breeders would buy a puppy from such breeder. Why? There is only one reason: puppy which have 50-100 "sisters and brothers" is useless. Such dogs have trite pedigree and you get huge problems in the future because there are too many dogs "on market" with the same pedigree. So if a breeder will buy such puppy than maybe this person has luck and the puppy is very nice so it has some "value" if it comes to the exterier. But if the puppy will be average than it will be witout any "value" (too trite pedigree, too many other dogs with the same blood, a.s.o). So for a breeder is is much more "worthly" to buy a dog with unique pedigree even if the dog will be no "Super-champion". The same is for male owners - if someone is looking for a stud dog he/she will never buy a dog with trite pedigree. We had similar situation in CZ - there were over 30 dogs offspring of one male. Many of these dogs have breeding rights but the breeders use ... 2-3 of them. The rest of these dogs is total uninteresting (and they will have no single litter in the future) because if a breeder will use one dog with such pedigree it make no sence to use brother of this dog for the next litter because it is genetic the same. So no more "value". I see the same is with the offsprings of Cutt. Because Miky will have so many litters there will be no sence to use other brothers of him... Maybe one, maybe the best of the others. But owners of other dogs with the same/similar pedigree are in cocked hat... Simply said: if someone is interesting in breeding in CZ or SK such person is looking for a puppy from a interesting (and unique) mating. If the people in Italy will do the same the breeders will be FORCED to pay more attention to genetic diversity and do not more produce 100 dogs of the same male... * Standard I think it is the biggest problem in Italy. In Czech Republic and Slovakia a breeder MUST breed typical dogs. If someone will create his "own type" which is inconsistent with the breed standard his dogs will get very bad notes during the bonitations (maybe not all but most of them) and it would be never be possible to get some important titles with such dogs. Best example: Dutch/French-'Jackal-Champions' - the dogs were getting super titles from the Dutch and French judges in their countries but when the dogs came to the bonitation all of them get P5 and P14 and max. "very good" on dog shows from judges which know this breed. And this control is missing in Italy because there is no control from the club (in Czech Republic and Slovakia there was time when Hartl (Rosiks) made special trainings for breeders and judges to show them how to evaluate a CzW). Here the only selection make judges on the dog shows. Most of the judges do not have any experienced with this breed - they never judged in the origin countries / they never asked the clubs for training and they never saw how a typical CzW should look like. Some of them show even lack of the basing information written in the breed standard. So it is not surprising they are not able to select the best dogs and judge right. I was really shocked when I received some descriptions written by these judges - they wrote about TYPICAL and REQUERED features of CzW as about faults... ![]() Such judges are not leading this breed, they are not working for this breed but they are cheating the people. When the people come to a dog show they really think the BEST dog will win. But how such judge can choose the best dog if he has no idea about judging CzW? ![]() ![]() ==================== Sure we can talk how breeders should breed and which mistakes some people make. But it must not be a huge danger. Why? Breeders breeding for money are not interested that people breed with his dogs because "more breeders = bigger competition for him". So it is enough if the future breeders are more responsible: if they breed keeping the genetic diversity and if they breed only with healthy dogs which are worth to be used. And I think it is working and there are many responsible breeders in Italy because if you look "Stud dog list" there are many stud dogs with totaly different blood which are not related with the "black trinity" (Clover-Charon-Cutt). For me the only serious problem you have are the incompetent judges.... |
