PRA test
Can someone tell me what the PRA test involves as I have seen it mentioned many times. When we had Shadow DM, MH and PD tested I noticed there was a PRA test on the form, so I marked it to be done only for Laboklin to tell me the test was not valid for CsV's.
Many thanks |

One is testing dog's genetic predisposition for PRA (blood sample is needed and the cost is higher). The other checks if the dog suffers from PRA + many other eye diseases at the moment of being tested. It's quick and easy for the dog and costs around 25 Euro in Poland (depending if with official certificate or without), but the result is oficially valid only one year. Since CSVs rarely suffer from eye diseases there is no need to repeat it every year or before each matching, as in the case of other breeds where PRA is a serious genetic problem. There are just a few vets in PL who issue the official certificates. Thus local kennel clubs offer such testing opportunities usually once or twice a year at their own premises or try to match it with bigger dog shows. |
Thanks for the replies.:thumbs
I wanted to understand myself what was involved before trying to communicate it to Bulgarian vets (my Bulgarian is OK but not up to technical or medical discussions!!). So would I be right to say that when a dog is listed as PRA free (eg in the planned litter listings) that this is the result of the eye test? Also, where can I get the blood test done (Laboklin have Shadow's DNA stored so I only need to get them to send to the appropriate place) if it is not possible to find someone in Bulgaria qualified to do the eye tests? |
There is yet No DNA test for PRA eye research of CsW available
More info about EVCO eye research for dogs you can find HERE In most cases an EVCO research will be enough. When a dog has specific eye problems an owner can also let make E.R.G. In my country only the university is doing this for research. Info about what is an E.R.G. , you can find HERE Sorry , but I could not find info about E.R.G. for dogs in English language! |
Barons eye problem doesn´t found in ECVO only in gonyoscopy...
Dog who have that can passed ECVO clear very many time :? I will use Gonyoscpy and ECVO together in future. |
Thanks again everyone.
Now I just have to try to find a good - qualified!! - vet here in Bulgaria... Satu - how did you notice Baron had a problem? |
