Sure it is possible.
The biggest problem are missing statistics about Euroasian Wolves because most numbers we can find speak about wolves in general (and for example 'American' Wolves are bigger, heavier (sometimes 90 cm and 80 kg) than 'European' Wolves). There are also huge differences between Euroasian Wolves and for example this found in Russia are huge compared to 'Carpathian' Wolves that people used to create CzW. The reason it that Russian Wolves are sometimes crossing between Euroasian and Tundra Wolves. According to the DNA analyses we have 6 genotypes in 7 different areas in Europe.
I have some statistics about the Wolves in Bieszczady in Poland: the height was 65-80 cm by males, and 60-75 by females. But there are also new statistics published by IUCN (World Conservation Union) Wolf Specialist Group about the Euroasian Wolves and they say:
"An adult male wolf weighs from 20 to 80 kg; females are smaller (15-55 kg). Larger animals are found in more northern latitudes; the average weight of Mediterranean wolves is 25-35 kg, rarely as much as 45 kg. Total head and body length of an adult wolf is 110-148 cm; the tail is usually less than a third of body length (30-35 cm). Height at shoulder averages 50-70 cm. Ears are 10-11 cm long and triangular."
About the endurance and size - sure large Wolves are also very tough. But majority of large CzW do not look like Wolves anymore (anyway 90% or even more are too heavy) and it is the problem....
